The writers

Alan Cancelino and Jenne Wason met in the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop, where they first collaborated in year one and continued to develop their skills under the guidance of Maury Yeston in the Advanced Workshop. They are two-time semi-finalists for the O’Neill National Music Theater Conference.

Alan Cancelino is a natural-born pianist and composer who began playing and composing music at the age of four. He trained in classical performance under Slava Rostropovich and later studied film scoring at Berklee College of Music and Harvard University, where he was the winner of the Chick Corea Prize and discovered his passion for musical theatre. His work has been featured in venues such as NYMF, The Tank, Soho Playhouse, and The Public Theater. Notable credits include In Darfur by Winter Miller and the MAC-nominated revue What’s the Point?! (with Hector Coris). Alan also collaborated with Owen Robertson on Dead Man Blogging, Sybil, and a musical adaptation of Pecker by John Waters.

Jenne Wason is a lyricist and librettist with a BFA in Drama/Dramatic Writing from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. A finalist for the Kleban Award, she is the creator of the off-Broadway musical Winesday (composer: Joseph Benoit), which has also toured in Canada and inspired a French-language adaptation (VINdredi) and sequel (Next Winesday). Wason and Benoit also co-created the family holiday musical Flakie and are recipients of the Forte song commission. Jenne is currently at work on a new play gifted. She's a proud member of the Dramatists Guild, BMI, and Maestra.

Together, Cancelino and Wason have created multiple original works, including The White Rose (concert - New York Musical Theatre Festival; readings - York Theatre Company, Public Theater; workshop - Wright State University) and Bingo City (concert - NYMF). The pair is
urrently working on Write Now, a dark comedy musical, which had a workshop reading as part of Provincetown‘s O’Neill Festival of New Works. Their songs have been performed at various cabaret venues in the US and Canada.
